KIHEI, Hawaii, May 21, 2009 -- Vaughn Vasconcellos, president and CEO of Akimeka LLC, was named second runner-up for the National Small Business Person of the Year.
SBA Administrator Karen G. Mills made the announcement in Washington during ceremonies at the U.S. Small Business Administration’s celebration of National Small Business Week 2009. Vasconcellos was selected from among 53 state small business winners, including the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guam.
Vasconcellos founded Akimeka LLC in 1997 to provide innovative information technology solutions for the military medical industry. From an initial investment of $35,000, Akimeka has grown dramatically and now has annual revenues approaching $30 million and 195 employees nationwide.
Akimeka develops advanced IT solutions that help federal agencies and the military make critical decisions, support troops and respond rapidly to emergencies. The company’s high-impact solutions support high-priority challenges such as medical logistics, medical command and control, e-health, information assurance and public safety.
