Joint Information Technology Center Hawai`i Dedicated, May 28, 2003
Akimeka, LLC, dedicated the Joint Information Technology Center (JITC) at the Maui Research and Technology Park in Kihei on May 28, 2003. This state-of-the-art technology research and development hub is the first of its kind in the Pacific.
The mission of the Congressionally-directed JITC is to support the Department of Defense worldwide, by developing and sustaining technology solutions. Government agencies, including the Joint Staff, Office of Naval Research, Maui High Performance Computing Center, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Defense Information Systems Agency, and the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, partnered with Akimeka in this effort.
“The Joint Information Technology Center serves several purposes,” said Akimeka owner Vaughn Vasconcellos. “It will deliver high-quality technology solutions to the government, bring technology growth to Maui and provide jobs in Hawai`i. This opens tremendous opportunities for Hawaiians, and provides huge economic prospects for Maui and for the State.”
The dedication ceremony included remarks from Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa, Ms. Jennifer Goto-Sabas, Chief of Staff, Office of Senator Daniel K. Inouye, and Rear Admiral Barry McCollough, Commander Navy Region, Hawai`i Naval Surface Group Mid Pacific. A Maile Lei Ceremony was followed by an open house, pa'ina and entertainment.
